Taketoyo Japan is situated on the eastern coast of the Chita Peninsula which
lies south of Nagoya. It has a population of about 39,000 and an area of
about 10 square miles.
The development of Taketoyo in earlier times was due to its being
a port and having a railroad line. Presently, Taketoyo and neighbouring cities and towns
with small ports have joined to form one large port called port of Kinuura. A part of the
sea was reclaimed for a coastal industrial zone in the 1960's. One of the main exports of
the area is steel, which is sent to Canada, the USSR, China, and the USA.
The staple imports are cereals, beans, lumber and petroleum product which come from the
USA, Malaysia, and Australia.
